Mary Marsh

Local campaigner for Barnt Green and Hopwood

Mary has lived and worked in this part of the world most of her life: as a holistic therapist, as a boarding
school houseparent, as a book-keeper and small business owner, and now as a personal assistant.

Mary says:

"I want us to form a view about what we want to see for Barnt Green. I’ve spoken with the Portfolio Holder for Economic Development about ways we can help to support the village: whether that’s engaging to find ways to make parking easier and less congested in the village, supporting the business rates review and talking about what resources the Council could put in to support the independent cafes, shops and businesses."

For the village to survive and flourish, to be able to protect our green spaces and character and the village itself, we need to have a long-term plan for the village. I won’t be told what to think by a party, but I do want to see Barnt Green have a voice in any future plans for the district. At the moment we are at risk because we haven’t got a voice in the administration."

Without a lift, I am concerned about how accessible Barnt Green station is for the elderly and disabled, or those with very young children. This is not within the direct control of the District Council, but it is something I can and will lobby for, working with our MP."

"A voice for Barnt Green and Hopwood: "I won’t be told what to think by a party, but I do want to see us participate in a bigger vision across the district and at the moment that isn’t possible because we haven’t got a voice in the administration."
