Bromsgrove MP Sajid Javid has issued the following statement:

"Today I am announcing my intention to stand for the Leadership of the Conservative and Unionist Party, and to serve as the next Prime Minister. My motivation is simple - it’s time to rebuild trust, restore unity and create new opportunities for our country. As last night's European Election results made all too clear we must get on and deliver Brexit, restoring the public’s trust in our democracy. We need a leader who can bridge divides to heal our communities, renew our shared values and strengthen our society – as well as our economy – so that everyone can benefit from the opportunities a prosperous nation provides. I took up public service to do my best for this country, a country which has done so much for me. As your Prime Minster, it would be my privilege to fulfill that ambition every single day.
