Bradley Thomas MP and the Shadow Farming Minister have lambasted the “rural hating Government” after meeting with local farmers.
Robbie Moore MP recently joined Bradley on a visit to Mount Pleasant Farm, a dairy farm in Bromsgrove and the Villages.
They both met with local farmers where they discussed issues affecting the farming community, as well as hearing from farmers about what policies they would like to see from a future Conservative government.
The main topic of conversation was the Government’s devastating Family Farm Tax which will impact 249 farms across Bromsgrove and the Villages. The Chancellor failed to reverse her tax at the Budget last week.
A future Conservative government will scrap the Family Farm Tax.
Following the visit, Bradley said:
“This rural hating Government has it in for our farmers.
“At the Budget last week, the Chancellor had an opportunity to reverse her devastating Family Farm Tax – she didn’t. Why? Because she either doesn’t care or she’s just naïve to the impact her tax will have on family farms in Bromsgrove and the Villages and across the country.
“Mark my words: our country’s food security will get worse under this Government. Their determination to build houses and solar farms all over our countryside will see good farmland lost forever. The Government knows this, but they’re betting on imports to keep the country fed. As we’ve seen when global supply chains become volatile, this Government is risking our food security and pushing your food bills up even further.”

"It was fantastic to meet farmers from across the local area, kindly hosted by Peter and Emma at their dairy farm. Right now, our farmers are facing huge pressures from decisions made by the Government, whether that be from the accelerated drop in basic payments or the complete freeze to the Sustainable Farming Incentive. The Chancellor's refusal to axe the Family Farm Tax will be a devastating blow to the many family farmers I had the privilege of meeting.
"In an uncertain world it is more important than ever that we back domestic food production and give our farmers the certainty they need to expand, invest, and grow excellent food for our nation. I'm grateful to Bradley for inviting me to Bromsgrove to meet his local farmers, and I know together we will continue to put pressure on the Government to do the right thing, invest our rural economy, and start by axing the Family Farm Tax."
