District Council extends Local Plan consultation

Cllr Karen May.

The consultation on the strategy for Bromsgrove District’s next Local Plan has been extended by four additional weeks to help even more people have their say.

Originally launched on June 30th for an extended 12-week period, the consultation will now span 16 weeks, closing on Monday October 20th.

It sees Bromsgrove District Council inviting input from residents and infrastructure providers like the NHS, schools, utilities, and transport services, in the third of five consultation stages towards shaping a Local Plan for the 9,000 new homes the Labour Government requires is forcing on Bromsgrove and the Villages by 2043.

Local Plans are how communities can guide where and how those future homes, businesses, and infrastructure will be developed.

The consultation builds on earlier ‘issues and options’ and ‘call for sites’ stages by outlining proposed development locations, and the strategy for selecting them.

All responses from residents and stakeholders will be carefully considered in shaping the next stage of the Local Plan, with further consultation to follow.

So far over 5,000 representations have been received via email, letter, and the online consultation platform.

Portfolio Holder for Planning, Cllr Kit Taylor said:

“A lot of people want to have their say on how we will control future housebuilding in the district. So far we’ve had a fantastic response and with over 400 sites proposed it’s vital we get this strategy right.

“Following a cross-party recommendation from the Overview and Scrutiny committee the Cabinet unanimously recommended an extension to the consultation to ensure that all residents and stakeholders can have their say.

“The council had already doubled the statutory six-week period for this important consultation, and four more weeks will now give even more time to digest the strategy and share what you know, through your letters, your emails, and your comments on the digital platform. It all helps.”
