Cllr Adam Kent, the County Councillor for Wythall and the Conservative Group Leader on Worcestershire County Council, has questioned the Leader of the Council over the future of local councils in Worcestershire.
At the Overview and Scrutiny Performance Board meeting last Thursday (July 24th), Cllr Kent quizzed Cllr Monk on the Reform administration's position on the future of local government in Worcestershire.
The Labour Government is imposing council reorganisation on Worcestershire. All district councils and the county council will be abolished, and in its place a unitary authority will be formed. The unitary authority will absorb all the functions and powers of the district councils and the county council.
However, it's yet to be decided whether one unitary authority will be formed or two - one covering North Worcestershire and the other covering Soiuth Worcestershire.
Cllr Kent said:
"Say no to Birmingham!
"Today at Worcestershire County Council, we were at the Overview & Scrutiny Performance board examining the report that is being produced by officers to support a One Worcestershire Council.
"As many of you are aware I strongly support the One Worcestershire Council proposal which will keep Worcestershire intact as one entity and ensure the most financially viable solution with the best possible outcomes for residents and keeps well out of the clutches of Birmingham.
"Unfortunately, the Reform Cabinet Member responsible for One Worcestershire was away on holiday and in his absence there seemed confusion as to whether the Cabinet Member For One Worcestershire was potentially going to be the cabinet member for two Worcestershires as the Reform Party have not yet made their mind up what their decision is.
"This is probably the most important decision the County Council has faced and we see an inexperienced team clueless on what their view is.
"This is a massive decision for Worcestershire and Wythall.
"The short clip here sees me raising our concerns and questioning what Reform are proposing."
