Bromsgrove Conservatives have accused the Lib Dems of “not being honest” with residents over the promises the party is making over the A38 BREP works.
Ahead of the Bromsgrove South by-election on Thursday, October 30th, the Lib Dems are promising they will be “fighting against” the multi-million pound project - implying the works can be stopped.
However, since May, the Lib Dem Councillors on Worcestershire County Council have not brought a single motion to full council at Worcestershire County Council to either stop the A38 BREP project or to alter the plans.
In fact, since the BREP works began in January 2024, the Lib Dems have not brought a single motion to full council to either stop or amend BREP.
Instead of making promises he can’t keep, Matt Dormer, the Conservative candidate in the Bromsgrove South by-election, has vowed to work with local MP, Bradley Thomas, to ensure the A38 BREP scheme keeps Bromsgrove moving and delivers on the promises made by Reform-led Worcestershire County Council.
Matt Dormer said:
“Unlike members of other political parties, I will not make dishonest claims about BREP, and nor will I make the false promise that BREP can be stopped. Those who are promising you that are not being honest with you.
“The reality is the money is in place, contracts have been signed and a lot of work has already been completed or is underway. There would be no point in stopping the works now after all the pain that residents and businesses have already been through.
“Saying they will be ‘fighting against BREP’ is a nice Lib Dem soundbite, but it’s detached from reality. They’re vowing to fight against it without telling residents what they would do instead. What’s their alternative plan? They don’t have one.
