Bradley Thomas has welcomed a £1.6 million investment in a new and expanded Minor Injuries Unit at the Princess of Wales Community Hospital.

The local MP was taken on a tour of the hospital during his recent visit where he was shown where the new Minor Injuries Unit will operate from.

The investment is being made by Herefordshire and Worcestershire Health and Care NHS Trust which runs the hospital. The Trust reached the decision to invest in Bromsgrove's Minor Injuries Unit in November 2023.

Alongside five new treatment rooms, the redesign will see the creation of a dedicated resus bay, specialist facilities for the treatment of eye injuries and a plaster room - offering timely assessment and treatment for a broad range of minor injuries.

Work is set to begin this week, with the new unit, which will be located next to the existing x-ray department, set to open in the early summer. The existing unit will remain operational throughout the build, minimising disruption to patients.

During his visit, Bradley also visited the Lickey Ward, a 24-bed ward supporting patients requiring continued care after a stay in an acute hospital, the Cottage Ward, a 28-bed ward that completes assessments and rehabilitation of older people with varying health and care needs, and the Primrose Unit, a six bed (single occupancy) NHS Specialist Palliative Care ward.

Bradley said:

“Improving hospital access is a key part of My Plan for Bromsgrove and the Villages, so I’m really pleased to see this £1.6 million investment in a new and expanded Minor Injuries Unit at the Princess of Wales Community Hospital.

“Our MIU reduces pressure on A&E and ensures local residents can receive advice and treatment for a variety of injuries.

“This significant investment in our local hospital secures its long-term future as a vital community asset.”
