Bradley Thomas has secured new guarantees from a major broadband provider as they rollout broadband infrastructure in Bromsgrove and the Villages.

As part of the deployment of full-fibre broadband in the constituency, brsk has been installing new infrastructure, in particular new telegraph poles, which has led to complaints from residents.

Constituents have contacted Bradley to complain that they were not informed before the poles were installed and concerns have been raised about the number of poles being installed.

As part of his work to raise his constituents’ concerns, yesterday (December 02nd) Bradley met with the CEO of brsk and the Minister for Data Protection and Telecoms Chris Bryant MP.

At the meeting it was confirmed that brsk now has guaranteed access to BT Openreach infrastructure to install, in most cases, broadband infrastructure underground.

Bradley also received a guarantee that, where brsk plan broadband rollout in Bromsgrove and the Villages, they will be planning to do community engagement first before any telegraph poles are installed.

Bradley said:

“I’ve been contacted by a number of constituents who have been caught by surprise when telegraph poles have sprung up outside their homes.

“I believe vital broadband infrastructure should be installed underground where possible. But when telegraph poles are the only option, communities should be consulted with first before any infrastructure is installed.

“I’m pleased to have secured that guarantee from brsk following my meeting with their CEO. I hope residents are no longer caught out by any surprises if a telegraph pole was to appear in their street, but I will of course continue to hold brsk to account and ensure they keep their promises.”
