Bradley Thomas MP has welcomed the Government’s latest U-turn as the fuel duty freeze is extended.

In 2022, the previous Conservative government introduced a 5p cut in response to elevated prices after Russia’s illegal invasion of Ukraine.

In her Autumn Budget 2025, the Chancellor announced the 5p cut would be slowly reduced with motorists facing a 1p increase in September, 2p increase in December and another 2p increase in March.

However, after pressure from Bradley and the Conservatives, who voted against the fuel tax hike amid rising prices at the pump, the Government has announced they’re reversing course and instead the 5p cut on fuel duty will be extended to the end of the year.

The previous Conservative government first froze fuel duty in 2011 where it remained frozen for 14 years.

Following the Government’s latest U-turn, Bradley said:

“Having voted to axe the planned fuel tax hike, I’m pleased the Government has seen sense and scrapped their planned fuel duty hike.

“The Government’s fuel tax hike would have hurt businesses and hammered hardworking families across Bromsgrove and the Villages.”
