Bradley Thomas MP has voted to stop the Government from exposing our brave elderly veterans to vexatious litigation.
In a vote in the House of Commons Monday night (April 27th), the local MP voted against the Government’s carry-over motion on the Northern Ireland Troubles Bill.
His vote reflects growing concern that the Bill risks reopening deeply sensitive legacy issues while exposing veterans to prolonged and potentially vexatious legal claims, decades after their service.
Bradley wants the legislation to be repealed and to be replaced with an approach that delivers fairness for veterans while supporting long-term stability in Northern Ireland.
He has consistently argued that those who served our country, particularly in Bromsgrove and the Villages, must be treated with dignity and protected from unnecessary legal jeopardy. The current Bill, he believes, fails to strike the right balance between accountability and fairness, and risks undermining confidence among veterans and their families.
Bradley said:
“I voted against this Bill because it risks reopening old wounds and placing unfair legal burdens on those who served our country.
“However, Labour MPs voted to drag elderly British veterans back through the courts. It’s disgraceful.
“Our veterans deserve protection. They served their country with courage and honour. They should not be hounded decades later for doing their duty.
“That’s why I support the clear commitment from the Leader of the Opposition, Kemi Badenoch, that a government she leads will scrap this legislation and bring forward a fairer, more balanced approach.”
